Jamie’s Statement & Bio

I was raised in various communities in and around Vancouver. In 2004, my family immigrated from Korea, and it has provided me with deep context for the best a city can offer. I’ve gotten to enjoy skating lessons at Killarney, swimming in outdoor pools, and taking music lessons to learn a variety of instruments like piano and guitar! I loved spending my summers at camps where we got to explore our city, and biking to our various parks available to us. I want to ensure that these experiences can continue to be enjoyed by the next generation.

I’ve been involved in left-wing politics since I was 15 when I first volunteered in a federal election campaign. Since then, I’ve gotten to be deeply involved in progressive politics and activism reaching all levels of government.

In university, I was a co-founder for the University of Waterloo NDP club. We empowered students to organize and fight for things they care about. This includes preventing cuts to transit, advocating for better student housing, and university unionizing efforts.

I know what it takes to achieve the results that we need for real, material improvements.

In Vancouver, I will do whatever it takes to ensure that you can enjoy the parks and recreation you deserve. When our public spaces fall behind, our communities fall behind. I can’t stand by and watch Ken Sim and ABC continue to neglect and underfund our public spaces, threatening the very fabric of our city.

This is why I am running for nomination with COPE and I hope that I can earn your support.
